Ode to Trayvon

As the verdict was read

Trayvon lay dead

Zimmerman displayed a broad smile

The media praised his lawyer’s style

The persecution laid claim to doing their best

However, no theory to the case was given before their rest

The stand your ground law was used to support Zimmerman’s release

The right wing cheer strongly touting their beliefs

Shoot first with deadly force and let the questions come later

A cover for those who are known to be haters

A young black boy walking home from the corner store

Never to be hugged, kissed or seen alive by his parents anymore

The pursuing aggressor was painted as the victim

Not withstanding he was a man caring a gun…”oh my God what a system”

George Zimmerman said he was not sorry it was God’s will

What God would sanction any unarmed human being killed

The jury deliberated for about 16 hours

Sitting high upon the perch from their ivory towers

Six women five white one women who’s race that couldn’t be identified

Returned a verdict that brought tears to the majority of the peoples eyes

The police and Florida’s justice system had their way

Setting free a killer to prey and kill another day

The gave him back his gun and set him free to roam the neighborhood again

Rendering his brand of justice shoot first which only his story to be told in the end

It was said by many that race was not a factor in the case

The judge would not allow the term racial profiling to see the light of day

The racial climate of the nation seemed to return rapidly to the past

When the people shouted, “A black President thank God Almighty at last”

The same fear that perpetrated death and brought young Trayvon’s life to an end

Was emboldened in those who hate other’s feeling superior because of the color of their skin

All through the nightmare Trayvon’s parent’s demonstrated courage, dignity and character

Calmed all the anger and allowed peace to be the guide an uplifting factor

Oh Trayvon our son your death will not be in vain

Your death has awaken the truth again that racism still reigns

Oh George Zimmerman you may be free and think you gotten away

However, your evil act of hatred once again ignited the people to join  together and continue the fight for a better day
